When cleaning does not work
Cleaning your gums or between your teeth feels frustrating, painful, difficult, or ineffective. This focuses on understanding why and adjusting your technique so it works in your own mouth. Where needed, this includes guided, hands-on adjustment of your technique, customising tools such as single tufted brushes, and targeting specific areas based on your gum condition.
Treatment of advanced gum disease (periodontitis/gingivitis)
Gum disease is managed in two stages. The first stage focuses on improving your oral hygiene and daily routine, which reduces most of the inflammation in your gums through effective bacterial plaque control. This stage is essential and depends on what is done at home on a daily basis. The second stage focuses on areas where this is not fully effective. Technique is refined further to target more difficult areas, and professional care is used where needed. This may include more detailed cleaning, sometimes under local anaesthetic, to access deeper areas.
Ongoing maintenance
In some situations, it is not possible to achieve full plaque control through your daily oral hygiene alone. This may be due to difficult access, sensitivity, or the shape of certain areas, even after refining your technique and adjusting your tools. In these cases, regular professional care is used to disrupt plaque in areas that remain difficult for you to manage, alongside continued support to improve your routine where possible. The aim is to control inflammation in your gums, slowdown progression, and maintain stability over time.
