Tobiasz Sliwa
Dental Hygienist & Therapist
I am a dual-qualified Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist, with an additional background in Dental Nursing.
My career in dentistry started at King's College Hospital in 2014, where I worked as a trainee dental nurse before continuing as a qualified nurse.
I later completed my training in Dental Hygiene and Therapy at King's College London and qualified in 2021. Since then, I have been working within the Restorative Department at King's College Hospital as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Alongside this, I also work in private practice in Dulwich Village, where I provide assessment, treatment, and ongoing management of gum disease.
My approach
In my clinical work, I focus particularly on patients who are trying to look after their gums but are still struggling.
Very often, patients are told what to use, but not shown properly how to use it, not checked whether they can actually do it, and not followed up to see if it is working.
Even when instructions are given, they are rarely adapted, refined, or improved over time.
That is where I work differently.
I assess what the patient is currently doing, identify what is not working, and then guide them step by step until the technique becomes practical and repeatable.
If something is difficult due to pain, access, or dexterity, I adapt the approach rather than simply repeating the same instruction.
My aim is not only to treat gum disease, but to help patients manage it long-term.
What I find most rewarding is when a patient believes something is impossible, and then, with the right guidance, is able to do it within minutes. Very often, it is not about ability — it is about being shown the right way.
